The English Language Center recruits qualified ESL teachers who have a passion for helping students achieve success.


Job Description:

Instructors work with English language learners to help students use English in a relative context to prepare for university courses. Applicants must be flexible, creative, and sensitive to cultural differences within the classroom setting. Instructors are expected to teach the four language domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing within each class. A communicative approach to teaching and learning integrates the explicit instruction of grammar, vocabulary, language structure and use with meaningful and authentic comprehension-based classroom experiences to promote bilingualism, bi-literacy, and biculturalism in an inclusive, intellectually stimulating learning environment.


  • Planning and delivery of high quality, research based ESL instruction to adult learners of English with the option of presenting one academically based seminar as an elective per 8-week term.
  • Adhere to ELC curriculum guidelines with respect to planning, delivery, and assessment
  • Monitor individual and class progress, using the ELC’s grading structure and reporting procedures
  • Participate in professional development activities, including on-site and occasional off-site training
  • Employ unique skill sets (knowledge, training, language and cultural proficiencies) to serve the English Language Center and its customer base, as needed
  • Serve on one or more faculty committees per 8 week term
  • Assist, as needed, with Bridge Week planning, including New Student Orientation, placement testing, site preparation, etc.
  • Serve as a representative for the English Language Center within the broader community, networking with schools, and civic organizations to promote awareness of and access for our students, school, and business
  • Documents use of time and reports weekly efforts and production to the ELC Operations Manager and/or Director, as appropriate
  • Performs other duties, as assigned


ELC instructional personnel possess the appropriate combination of educational credential(s), specialized training and/or certification, work experience, and demonstrated classroom management skills, which qualifies them for their training assignments. Instructional personnel meet all relevant accreditation, federal, state, and/or industry-specific requirements.

The ideal candidate has earned:

1. An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Bilingual Education/TESL, English/TESL, or a closely related field.


2.     A Bachelor’s Degree in English, TESL, or a closely related field and CELTA or TESOL certification.

Minimum qualifications include:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in English, TESL, or a closely related field and a minimum of 3 months ESL teaching experience.

Preferred applicants are: bilingual, bi-literate, proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and have taught ESL or EFL in the United States or abroad for a minimum of 6 months.
